Great Alpine Road

The Great Alpine Road passes the front gate, and it is one of the most spectacular drives in the country, from the valley floor up over the alps.

The drive

• Climbs from Bright through Harrietville to Mt Hotham.
• Lookouts, alpine meadows and big mountain views.
• Continues east toward Omeo and the Gippsland lakes.

Seasonal note

Snow and ice affect the higher sections in winter, carry chains where required and check conditions before a high-country drive.

Local tip: Even a short out-and-back toward Harrietville gives you a taste of the climb without committing to the full day.
