Mount Hotham sits at the head of the Ovens Valley, an hour and fifteen up the Great Alpine Road from Bright. It's known for its village-on-the-ridge setting (the highest in Australia) and snow-sure, north-facing terrain in winter, particularly popular with intermediate and advanced skiers.
In summer, Hotham is a base for some of Australia's best alpine walks, the Razorback to Mt Feathertop, the Cobungra Ditch, the Falls to Hotham Trail. The Hotham Heli Hike service runs in the warmer months.
The Great Alpine Road is sealed all the way, but winter driving requires diamond-pattern chains carried (and used) when conditions dictate. Reception can advise on current road status.
