The Ovens River runs straight past Bright and the park, and there are half a dozen good swimming holes within ten minutes' walk. The closest is the Pioneer Park hole, sandy entry, deep middle, and a small jumping rock if you're brave.
The river is fed by alpine snowmelt so it's cold even in mid-summer, perfect on a 35°C day. Family-friendly with gentle pebble beaches, but children should always be supervised: the current picks up around the bigger rocks.
Bring water shoes (the pebbles are slippery) and a towel. There are public toilets and shaded picnic tables at Pioneer Park.
